Tribute to Geoff

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Geoff Patchell at age 38.  Geoff was an integral part of founding and establishing his family business, Amazing Gates of Canada.

Geoff impacted the lives of many through loyal service to his community.  He was a devoted Training Officer at Station 6 in Oro Medonte, a cherished employee and friend of Mt. St. Louis Ski Resort, and an eager volunteer for Camp Oochigeas, where he organized the charity hockey game “Battle of the Badges” for many years.

Geoff passed away from a rare autoimmune disease called “HLH”.  From the onset of his illness to his passing, was only 3 short weeks.

A quick diagnosis and treatment for HLH is imperative for survival. However, little is presently known about HLH.  Front-line doctors lack the tools they need to identify the signs and symptoms, as well as access to appropriate testing, for an early diagnosis.

It is our hope that Geoff’s tragic loss might bring life to others.  The HLH Association, funded solely through donations, works to equip medical staff with the education and tools they need for early diagnosis.  If you are able, we ask that you kindly consider donating to the HLH Association through the donation button on their website.  No donation is too small and all are greatly appreciated.  Earlier diagnoses will save lives!

Thank you for helping us turn Geoff’s loss into others’ gain.  There is nothing he would want more than to turn his tragedy into an opportunity to give back to others.
